Hi everyone! I just got back from an amazing weekend in Sonoma with some of my best girlfriends from elementary school and needed a pretty project to cheer me up. Of course I missed my family but I’m now missing the spa treatments, wine, shopping and yummy food! The place we stayed at had the most amazing floral arrangements and architecture. Looked like Martha herself had been there so of course I was smitten. Here are some of my favorites from the weekend…
Most of these were taken at The Lodge and where we ate dinner at El Dorado Kitchen. Pretty much my perfect design style. California Chic at its best. And here are the ladies (sorry for the crazy eyes).
We’re missing one because she was sick so hopefully next time it’s the whole gang! But isn’t it amazing to have friends that have known you your entire life, braces and all? Pretty special!
So you can see I was inspired to come home and create something pretty. I had bought an orchid last week and wanted to change out the pot it came in. Anyone else love orchids as much as I do? Mostly it’s white I’m obsessed with but occasionally green or purple too. I always see them in magazines potted in gorgeous shells with tons of flowers so I thought I’d try to recreate it on a smaller scale. And on a much smaller budget. Here’s what you need:
An orchid and a pretty container. I found this shell at Marshall’s for ten bucks and drilled a hole in the bottom.
Take the orchid out of the pot but leave the plastic container on. Trim off the top portion if it can be seen in your vase/pot.
Shove that baby in! After I put it in, I realized I probably should have gotten a bigger shell or container but it was too late. I figure even if it dies after a few months it was less than fifteen bucks. That’s five dollars a month for something that looks pretty and makes me happy. The hubs would roll his eyes at that for sure haha! I heard putting an ice cube in once or twice a week and some sun is all it needs. Maybe I should Pinterest it?
Here it is all finished.
Trader Joe’s has a fabulous selection right now starting at $8.95 so if you need a little pretty in your house, I highly recommend one of these beauties!
